About Us

Sickle Cell Disease Association of Illinois’ (SCDAI) primary mission is to enhance the quality of life for people with sickle cell disease and their families. To effectively achieve this goal, SCDAI acts as an advocate for improved healthcare and services for sickle cell patients by educating and informing the community through outreach programs.

2026 Golf Outing

Our 24th outing includes a 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner, raffles and more. Golfing categories include a Men’s and Women’s Flight. Prizes are awarded for low gross, longest drive and closest to the pin. Hosted in Tinley Park.

Walk-Jog-Bike-Athon

The Walk-Jog-Bike-A-Thon, or WJBAT is one of the oldest outdoor fundraisers in the Chicagoland area and is a major revenue source for SCDAI's programs and services. This is where we put sickle cell disease on the run! Come and join us at your own speed.

Cell & Gene Therapy Grants & Support

CGT Grant aims to provide patient support for those who qualify for Cell & Gene Therapy (CGT). We offer wraparound services such as:

  • Patient education throughout the process

  • Screenings & Care Coordination

  • Childcare reimbursement

  • Parking Reimbursement for CGT appointments

  • ...and more!​

Support Groups

Through Zoom, GroupMe, and occasional in-person meetups, we create space for making connections with others. We have support specifically for men, for caregivers, and some support groups for everyone!
