State Advocacy Day

October 28 & 29, 2025

Once a year, SCDAI plans a State Advocacy Day, where a group of SCD advocates head to our capitol, Springfield, to ask for support from our state assembly.

Due to ongoing uncertainties and travel restrictions affecting some of our key partners, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel next week’s 2025 Advocacy Day in Springfield, IL. We plan to reschedule for 2026, and will share new details as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we invite you to join our November Support Group Meeting (details coming soon!) where we’ll discuss current advocacy efforts and next steps as we close out the year together. Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued commitment to our shared mission. Your voice and support mean everything.

SCDAA: Advocacy Days

Advocates spend the first day preparing to speak with their senators and representatives. On the second day, they journey to Capitol Hill to hold meetings with officials and discuss the importance of supporting sickle cell legislation, protecting Medicaid and more. Usually in April or May.

Sick Cells + SC3:
Policy Forum

The Policy Forum is 2-day, hands-on event designed to inform sickle cell advocates on critical SCD policy priorities, train advocates to speak with their federal representatives, and connect with them on a virtual Hill Day. Usually in mid-March.
